Genesis 12:1-3
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
WE ARE BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
BLESSED: We receive God’s grace.
TO BLESS: We give God’s grace.
Proverbs 18:21a
The tongue can bring death or life…
WORDS ARE POWERFUL
WORDS ARE POWERFUL AND HARD TO CONTROL
Blessing: Using our words to benefit the one spoken TO or spoken OF.
Cursing: Using our words to harm the one spoken TO or spoken OF.
James 3:2-10
Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.  And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.
Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
James 1:19-20
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.
Ephesians 4:29
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
QUICK ANGER & QUICK WORDS CAN CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE
Home is the place where our words are the most powerful and hardest to control.
GOD CAN USE OUR WORDS TO BLESS AND BUILD UP
James 3:2
Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
OUR WORDS CAN…
BLESS OR CURSE OTHERS
HONOR OR GRIEVE GOD
BUILD UP OR TEAR DOWN OUR RELATIONSHIPS
